Thamesmead Town Summer Tournament 2003
The
Under 9's went close to winning their second tournament
of the season however ended up losing their third final
in twelve months following a penalty shoot out. Having
progressed to the Semi Finals following wins over
Birchmere and Fleetdown United it was a rematch of the
group game that saw us take on Birchmere in the Semi
Final. Lee took control early on and following George
Dunns early goal it seemed a case of how many, however
our lack of training seemed to take its toll as Birchmere
forced their way back into the match and following their
equaliser the game could have gone either way. Extra time
failed to produce a winner after which the resultant
penaties saw Lee gain a 4-3 success. Credit however must
go to both sides for some excellent penalties. The final
against Thamesmead Eagles was a hard fought affair and
after Thomas Jewers went close the game proved to be an
end to end affair. George Dunn went close towards the end
of normal time but as with the Footscray Lions final
against the same opposition the game was destined to go
to penalties. We converted our first three penalties to
raise our hopes but Thamesmeads keeper saved our last two
to give Thamesmead the cup with a 4-3 success.
Congratulations to the winners not only for their success
but also for their excellent organisation of the
competition on the day.
